12 weeks – what it’s really like to intern for a digital agency!

DO is excited to welcome our Spring class of digital interns. Over the course of the next 12 weeks we will focus on bringing you a fresh perspective from our Strategy, Marketing and Design interns on what it’s really like to intern at a digital agency. To start we will focus on DO’s newest Design intern Margo Thomas…… My name is Margo Thomas, I am 23 years old and currently the design intern at Digital Operative. It has been quite a sleepless year at Platt College, but thank goodness for my lifeline of coffee. My personal life consists of school, serving endless breadsticks, salad, and soup at the Olive Garden as a waitress/bartender, and now my internship here at D.O. In my free time I love to be outside in the beautiful weather with my dog, Lois Lane (yes, after Superman’s woman). Also, I am Disney freak, I love to go to Disneyland. But enough about myself, let’s talk about this internship.

1. Where do you go to School? What is your Major? When do you plan on graduating?

I am currently attending Platt College for my Bachelors in Web Design. I am graduating in September 2014.

2. How did you hear about Digital Operative?

When I met Brad and Shannon at my school’s portfolio showcase. I guess they liked what I had done, because I got the internship.

3. What do you hope to learn from your internship?

I am hoping to gain out of class knowledge and a real work experience. Pick the brains of my superiors and the company to get that knowledge.

4. 1 week down - 11 to go......How do you feel after your first week of interning?

What an experience it has been thus far. Everyone is extremely helpful and ready to help me out if I need anything. Still feeling like the newbie and out of the loop. Decorated the desk up a bit, nothing to fancy, but feels like my space.

5. What do you hope to do after completing your internship and graduating from college?

After graduation, I plan on celebrating and sleeping in past 6am. But, the big goal is a career. With the help of this wonderful opportunity here at D.O., I hope to use that experience to my advantage and land me a graphic/web design job with a company.

6. Tell us something interesting about yourself?

What secret shall I reveal about myself? As for my Disney loving side, I adore birds. I think they are majestic and absolutely gorgeous. You hear about cat ladies, I would be a bird lady for sure. (I have a pet bird named Tweety, so I am already getting there). I am so envious of their ability to soar so high and to fly free with no restrictions.
